From mystery to learning: a murder mystery Toastmasters meeting

Erzelli Toasters in Genoa organised a murder mystery meeting. The idea began over lunch, when a member and the club President wondered whether a murder mystery dinner format could be adapted to a Toastmasters meeting without losing its essence.
The meeting took place on 24 April 2024 and was a great deal of fun. Positive feedback inspired Alessandro Balboni to write a series of articles on his website, explaining its creation step by step so that other clubs could reproduce it.
The first article introduces the murder party format: an entertainment event in which players become investigators solving a mystery. It also explains the resources needed and some initial ideas. Later articles cover the different phases of the meeting and how to handle each role in a Toastmasters setting.
From murder mystery dinner to Toastmasters meeting
The idea had an earlier starting point. In 2018 the club held a murder mystery dinner with actors performing the story while Toastmasters members took part as investigators. Alessandro then wondered how a Toastmasters meeting could adopt the format while retaining its educational and developmental purpose.
