Taking the first step towards visiting a Toastmasters club may feel daunting. Knowing what to expect makes it easier: you will find a friendly environment where you can ask questions and see whether the club suits you.

What does being a guest mean?

You attend a meeting without being a member. You can meet the members, see how the meeting works and decide whether you would like to join.

Do guests need to pay?

Guest attendance is generally free. Check with your chosen club beforehand for any venue or refreshment charges.

How long does a meeting last?

Usually between 90 minutes and two hours, depending on the club, the speeches and the activities on the agenda.

What happens during a meeting?

The three main sections are prepared speeches, impromptu speeches (Table Topics) and evaluations. Guests may be invited to try Table Topics, but there is no pressure to speak.

A Toastmasters meeting

Can I participate actively?

Yes. Guests are often invited to take part in Table Topics, the impromptu speaking session. You may also choose simply to observe.

What should I bring?

Just yourself and your curiosity. The club provides the materials needed for the meeting.

Do I need to prepare?

No special preparation is needed. Arrive a little early so you can meet members and become familiar with the venue.

A visit is the first step into the Toastmasters world. Ask questions, join in at your own pace and enjoy discovering public speaking.
